Cellulite - Foods to help you fight cellulite

Diet and exercise are two of things that you always hear when it comes to living your healthiest life.  Food = fuel for your body and as we’ve said may times before what you put in your body gives out.  Exercise = muscle and muscle means less fat and a stronger body.

From our earlier posts these 2 work hand in hand in the battle of the bulge.  We found some great foods that have a great boost to your body to fight cellulite.

We talked about dehydration last week and with our bodies being nearly 60% water this one should be no surprise.

Continuing with the theme of hydration, cucumbers contain more water by weight than any other solid food. They are also a natural diuretic – freeing up water retention.

Flax Seed, Oily Fish

These foods are full of essential fatty acids (EFAs) that improve skin elasticity. Flax seeds contain lignans, phytochemicals that help to correct hormone imbalances that can lead to the formation of cellulite.  Also, the many vitamins and minerals found in flax seeds increase skin health and thickness, helping to reduce the appearance of cellulite.

 Watermelon, tomatoes, peaches

All rich in lycopene a nutrient that prevents the breakdown of collagen in the skin and promotes cell renewal.

Avocado is the perfect food for balancing glucose levels and keeping your cellulite at bay. This superfood is packed full of potassium and folate. While avocado is high in fat, it is also high in fiber.

Citrus Fruits

Citrus fruit are great for their ability to lower the impact of carbohydrates on your body. Carbohydrates are quickly digested by the body and converted into sugar, affecting your glucose levels.

When it comes to exercise and cellulite this one is a bit tricky as movement here is key.  You can squat and lunge till the cows come home but they will have little to no affect on cellulite the reason here is muscle exercising does not burn fat from the fat tissue that sits on top of it - it derives fat and glycogen ("carbs") it burns from the general circulation. So these exercises won’t directly get rid of cellulite, they only tone up the muscles of your butt. This muscle toning will end up in butt lifting which is great, but it doesn’t directly affect cellulite, only indirectly.

Two of the most powerful exercises are HIIT and Fast running

Interval training is by far the best form of exercise for cellulite reduction and prevention. This is because during the bursts of high intensity activity you burn calories very fast - much faster than you would with slow intensity work. In addition, those bursts act as a shock on the endocrine system and boost your metabolism much more effectively than slow intensity exercise, so you continue to burn calories after your training session.

We didn’t say it was going to be easy, but if you want to reduce your cellulite it will be worth it!

Check back next week for your final tips on how to reduce your cellulite.
